“I believe that every human being has a finite number of heartbeats. I don’t intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.” Neil Armstrong

Time is the most precious commodity we have. Of all the resources we regularly seek out and use, time is the only one that is impossible to supplement.

It’s not that we don’t pay attention to time. On the contrary, we often pay a great deal of attention to time. We rush around trying to be places on time, and we even worry about wasting time. The problem is that our evaluations of whether or not we’re “wasting time” typically are done in terms of quantity of time spent, the amount of time we take to achieve what we want to achieve, rather than quality of time, the things we’re choosing to spend time on in the first place.

Today, periodically pause and reflect on how you are using your time. Then, consider your priorities and values, the things that are truly important to you, and ask yourself if your use of time right now is in line with those priorities. Is what you’re doing something that really matters to you? If not, do something that does.

Our time on this planet is limited, and we don’t know how much of it we have. So, instead of emphasizing getting as much done as possible with the finite time we have, let’s focus on spending our time in ways and with people that are most important to us.
